I don’t have a very fancy digital camera, but I love to take my camera everywhere I go. Sometimes I get really special results.

The day I took the picture of the fall colors on the mountains (posted), our 2 preschool girls and I were playing at our local playground. One of their favorite things to do at this particular playground is to climb into a hilly area filled with scrub oak. Over many years, the feet of many children have worn paths through the brush and growth, creating an magical wooded escape for young imaginations.

I followed the two girls closely as they climbed the steep slope and then entered the wood on one of the paths. They were having a glorious time trotting along the tight path and avoiding branches and rocks. Little Becca was following her sister’s lead. I could sense both of their delight. The weather was overcast, but unseasonably warm that day, and the wind was gusting, giving the air an electric, surreal feel.

At one point, I let the two of them attempt a more treacherous path by themselves. As I watched, I grabbed my camera. At the end of their excursion, they had to descend a short climb. To these small people, a small descent must have seemed like going down a large cliff! The wind was ripping through and I watched the two sisters cling tightly to each other, helping each other down the ominous passage.

My heart was warmed as I watched them. I still get that same feeling looking at these photos. How often in life do we as sisters need each other and cling to each other for comfort, strength, and inspiration.

Our lives are filled with these amazing moments, and I am so grateful to read and share your stories as well. I hope that, as sisters, Becca and Naomi can continue to help each other and lean on each other their entire lives.
