I would also add that NYX and La Femme are smart alternatives to more pricey cosmetic brands. I agree with Mo, and save up my big bucks for great skincare (my Suki and Caudalie), and my foundation/concealer.

Once a year, Sephora offers their friends and family discount for 20% your entire purchase. That is usually is in the month of November. If you have a favorite brand; go to their website and sign up for their e-newsletter to get the latest deals and offers from them directly.

That’s an excellent question! It’s a little known fact that many of the large lines are owned by huge corporations that also own or have ties to brands you see in the stores. I can guarantee that if you look at the cosmetics offering in Target, Rite Aid, etc. you will find similar products to those at many of the major counters. It’s almost like the big companies produce their own knock off versions of popular department store products.
L’Oreal and Max Factor both have great lines with a lot of big bold colors out right now. In fact, Max Factor was ahead of the game when they recently brought out their highlighting (colored) mascaras. Rite Aid has a great return policy that makes trying new things virtually risk free.
I save my pennies for a good moisturizer from Boots that I love. At $21 it’s still pricey, but is waaaay less than one of the “big” brands and gives me great skin to put makeup on, regardless of it’s price! Decide what things you just can’t skimp on, for me it’s concealer and a brow pencil, and save for those items. This actually gives you freedom to try less expensive items in the categories you might not consider essentials.

I’m looking at these amazing colors and wondering… what is a girl on a TIGHT budget to do? I just can’t drop that kind of money right now… so, I’m curious. What would you suggest for someone who just doesn’t have the cash to spend??
