Today on MSN.com, they have a very informative presentation with great skin tips for women in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s +.
Four Decades of Beautiful Skin, here are their tips for gals in their 30’s:
- “Cleanser: In the morning, use a cleanser with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) to encourage exfoliation. In the evening, wash with a creamy cleanser.
- Moisturizer: In addition to SPF 15 or 20 with UVA/UVB protection, your moisturizer should contain antioxidants, like green or white tea, pomegranate, or vitamin C, which will protect your skin from damaging free radicals. Start wearing an eye cream daily. For dark circles, use one with hydroquinone, vitamin C, or botanicals that brighten, like kojic acid, soy, or licorice; for puffiness, look for one containing caffeine; for extra moisturization, use one with hyaluronic acid, says Taylor.
- Nighttime treatment: Once you’re in your 30s, a retinoid or retinol isn’t optional anymore, says Hirsch. So if you’re not on a prescription retinoid, choose a night cream or serum with retinol.”
I think these are some very sound and good recommendations. I only wish I had started using Retinoids earlier, although I couldn’t have used them during my 5 pregnancies. Also, I would add caution to using products containing hydroquinone, which is used for lightening and fading pigmentation. Many people are sensitive to hydroquinone, and the FDA is considering a ban due to possible carcinogenic links and pigmentation issues with its use.

Thank you for this information! I will turn 32 this year and I’m starting to notice that my skin just isn’t the same any more! I’m going to print your post up and head to the store…
Very good advice! I’ve been using Clinique’s 3 step and, so far, it’s working great for an old gal like me. I used Retinoids in my 40’s – they are great – but insurance companies are extremely hesitant to cover the prescription products (Retin A comes to mind), which from my experience, give the best results. Stupid insurance companies.
No kidding! A container of Retin A can run almost $100 bucks. It will last a long time though. I am still working on the same tube I started 7 months ago, and have noticed some great improvements while using it consistently.
Mejojac – Tell me what you end up getting and how it works. Most skincare creams/treatments take a while to deliver results, 6 to 8 weeks at least! Instant results are just fairy tales, waaaah!
You suggested a good serum at night. Great advice!! We are independent reviewers of professional skin care products and just completed a series on serums and most recently recommended a one by Murad. We found it to be one of the best serums around and you put it on underneath your favorite night cream.
[...] After mentioning using Retin-A in a recent post, Marilyn made the comment: “I used Retinoids in my 40’s – they are great – but insurance companies are extremely hesitant to cover the prescription products (Retin A comes to mind), which from my experience, give the best results. Hey everyone,
Another great LOCAL organic skincare company that is certififed is MADE FROM EARTH. I have been using their products for the last 6 months – and now stopped!! Because my skin has naturally improved itself and I have seen a real decline in the amount of wrinkles on the side of my eyes. I would recommend the “VITAMIN ENHANCED FACE FIRMING SERUM”. This is the cream I only used for 6 months and now stopped because it naturally has improved my owns skins ability to heal itsefl and become firmer.
As a body lotion, I use the HONEY HONEY cream. Smells like honey. Definitely check them out and they are way better priced than most organic skin care lines. . .the website is madefromearth.com
