MBT's are a Swiss made shoe with a very hi-tech sole.

"The MBT sole is constructed to create a natural instability. The Masai Sensor is the first obstacle: landing is soft and feels uncertain. The sensomotoric system quickly reacts with the appropriate muscle activity, so that the foot joints are actively stabilised. The foot then rolls over the balancing section towards the toes. The active stability is maintained and the foot can roll off physiologically. Control over the rolling movement changes the stresses and strains on the foot. Increased muscle activity relieves the foot joints."

It sounds hokey, but these shoes really have made a huge difference for me. I have begged, I have pleaded with MBT/ Masai USA to allow me to review their line, but they have have refused! Guess they have enough publicity. As they saturate the market and their patented design expires, we will be able to purchase them for a reasonable amount of money. For now a pair runs about $230! A very high price to pay, but allow me to walk without pain.

Let me clarify - I have been addicted to shoes since early childhood and though I am no Imelda Marcos, I have my share of footwear. I will and have paid mucho for cute cute shoes (green shoes are my weakness!) Flip-flops, however, must be under $20 for me to consider purchasing them. I don't buy ALL my shoes at Smiths - yet. JK

Marilyn, I find absolutely nothing wrong with buying your shoes at the same place you buy your produce! One of my favorite sources for clothes is Costco. Yes, I am true FASHIONISTA!

That is crazy. FitFlops are like Gasoline I guess. Scarcity and high demand causes the price to rise. $50 is a lot to pay for a pair of flipflops, even if they are really cool ones.

Jami I am so glad you made that clarification because I was starting to worry about your personification of the sandals. I mean, hugging a tree is fine, but your shoes? Hmmm, I guess if they love you back its fine. You are too great! ;)

Nice review, I was wondering how these worked but was hesitant to put them on and try. My muscles are still recuperating and didn't think I should fatigue them any further. But I really really love how they love and they look super-cushy too!

Did you know when they first came out they were only $30? Then shot up to $40 when B&BW couldn't keep them in stock. It was craziness over flops! :D I remember calling around like a silly person asking all the B&BW's if they had any in stock. The closest pair was a size 5 (!!) 105 miles from St. Louis.

MoMommy, If you can't work da flops, maybe try a pair of the toe hugging ones from Columbia. Those are comfortable and they stay anchored to your fit. Good support too. :)
