Does this Motrin ad speak to you? As a woman and as a Mom (of five daughters), I take myself and my responsibilities as such very seriously.  I am insulted, I am angered, and I am pissed off by this Motrin ad campaign.

”Wearing your baby seems to be in fashion.
I mean, in theory it’s a great idea.
There’s the front baby carrier, sling, schwing, wrap, pouch.
And who knows what else they’ve come up with. Wear your baby on your side, your front, go hands free.
Supposedly, it’s a real bonding experience.
They say that babies carried close to the bod tend to cry less than others.
But what about me? Do moms that wear their babies cry more than those who don’t?
I sure do!
These things put a ton of strain on your back, your neck, your shoulders. Did I mention your back?!
I mean, I’ll put up with the pain because it’s a good kind of pain; it’s for my kid.
Plus, it totally makes me look like an official mom.
And so if I look tired and crazy, people will understand why.”
Who the *heck* thought this campaign was a good idea?! A bunch of morons, that’s who.  In response to this ad campaign many women are speaking out:

If this kind of ad campaign infuriates you, make sure you join the rapidly growing list of individuals who are speaking out against Motrin at “Shake the Salt.” And in the meantime, generic ibuprofen works fine for me.

Eeewww. That’s just BAD marketing!
Like totally Tracy. That’s why I became an “official” mom, to be in fashion (or at least in theory).
Sooo stupid.
Seriously? That’s ridiculous. And like you don’t get back/shoulder/neck pain from carting your kid around on your hip all day without a sling, or from hauling around one of those heavy carseat carriers. Yeah, I totally bought a sling so I could be a “real” mom and so everyone else would know it. Puh-leez.
Aye!
Crazy stuff, this ad campaign – did you see the ad they are running for Children’s Motrin? Count the number of times they say “crazy”…implying we are all crazy? Um…I’m thinking maybe the person who masterminded this campaign was a bit “crazy”!
LOL! I haven’t watched the Children’s Motrin ad yet, but will be sure to tally the # of times they say the word “crazy.”
WOW! I was wondering what all the Twitter about Motrin was about. I had no idea. Just makes me want to slap some marketing “guru” upside the head though. And I don’t even have kids! Who was the idiot behind this?!? Geesh.
I haven’t seen the ad, but based on the transcript, it appears to have a selfish and resentful tone to it. e.g. “Supposedly, it’s a real bonding experience” and “What about me?” As if it’s all too much trouble. I’m with you…..this ad really sends the wrong message. It’s been 14 years since I had my “little one” and I don’t recall having pain issues carrying her in a sling (for lack of a better word, since we didn’t have the same kind of slings back then). Wearing your baby isn’t a fashion statement. It’s motherly love.
As Marge once said on the Simpson episode on cartoon violence, “I’ll show you what one screwball can do!”
The screwballs have spoken and the ad is cancelled!
What a horrific campaign!
And yes, I use ibuprofin or advil.
Just wow, I can’t believe that someone came up with that and thought it was a good idea!
Everyone is talking about this! I think Motrin was incredibly stupid to think this ad wouldn’t piss people off. Then again, since everyone’s buzzing about it, perhaps it was marketing genius!
This ad is ridiculous and wrong on so many levels. What the heck were they thinking? They weren’t.
I can’t help but laugh at the fact that wearing your baby is “in fashion”. I know that’s what I was thinking when having my three kids. Am I totally an “official mom” yet?
The ad has been pulled from it’s main site but if anyone hasn’t seen it, it can be found on youtube…
