Eye Treatments! Many of us cannot afford the $50+ eye cream and would prefer to be able to pick up a product from the drug store. Here is my advice for selecting an effective drug store brand eye cream.
1. Read carefully through the product ingredient list. A good eye formula should have no strong fragrance or color, absorb quickly into your skin and contain beneficial ingredients like:
For example, L’Oreal’s Advanced RevitaLift Eye Cream contains shea butter, caffeine, and Retinyl Palmitate. I would say this might be a promising formula, but you might not like the fact that it has a strong fragrance or added color. Another product like “Yes to Carrots” Eye can C Cleary Now Eye Contour Cream has cucumber water, carrot oil, Retinyl Palmitate, and vitamin c, also contains fragrance, but seems to list more natural recognizable ingredients. Whenever you venture buying any product read the ingredients carefully and keep your receipt.Â
2. Eye creams should never sting or cause your eyes to tear-up. Eye creams should soothe not irritate your eyes.
3. Your eyes should feel moisturized, but not greasy.
4. Results take time. Most eye treatments will take consistent use for 6 to 8 weeks before you can start noticing improvements.
I recently noticed an ad for Garnier Nutritioniste’s Skin Renew “Anti-Puff Eye Roller” that contains caffeine, Vitamin b-5 and “exclusive skin nutrients.” This looks like it might hold some promise for the puffiness issues and I would be curious exactly how it works to diminish the dark undereye circles. In the *small print you will read that results were seen “after 8 weeks of use.” The women at Megsmakeup.com recently gave this product mixed reviews at, “GARNIER NUTRITIONISTE SKIN RENEW ANTI-PUFF EYE ROLLER! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!“
Here was my comment at megsmakeup.com: “After reading an ad about this product I became very curious about what people were saying about it. Because the cause of dark under eye circles is multi-faceted, this product may or may not help you. If your dark circles are caused by shadowing due to puffiness, because of the caffeine I bet this product would work well. If you have pigmented dark circles, probably not.”
Get used to this idea that there really is no instant fix for dark under eye circles or wrinkles. The choices are overwhelming, but with a little searching and trial and error, you should be able to find an eye cream that works well for you.

Yeah, now you tell me! I dropped some $ on the Olay Definity eye cream, and the stuff is so smelly I can’t even stomach being near it, let alone putting it on my face.
I knew I shoulda asked you first!
So sorry Tracy! The fragrance always gets to me as well. I would check out your natural food stores in their beauty aisle too.
Sally B’s Intenstive Eye Repair looks promising and is listed for $24. Check out: http://www.sallybskinyummies.com/detail.aspx?ID=22. So far everything I have tried from Sally B has been wonderful, and don’t forget to use the “mythsallyb” code to receive 10% off until the end of 08.
I’d also say that the Burt’s Bees Radiance line is nice. I tried their eye cream ( I got a radiance set) and it was ok to me, but I looooooooooooooooooved their night creme. Before that I’d been using Aveeno’s eye brightening creme but I had a nasty allergic reaction to it and my doctor told me to not use any of their products because of the severity of my reaction. I need to check out Sally B’s stuff, I’ve loved everything by them so far
Glad you’re impressed with the all natural ingredients in Yes to Carrots night cream. Thanks for the shout-out!
Jeremy
Aveeno has always been a HUGE problem product line for my son too, so I stay far, far away.
Olay seems to have some good products in their line but they LOAD them with fragrance. I’m not sure if they’re trying to smell “expensive” or what, but it’s heavy…
Unless you need something really intense or are using an acne product, your regular face cream will do well as an eye cream. Just because something has an “Eye” label on it doesn’t mean it’s different from what you’re already using, except for the price tag!
I feel the same about Olay (and some other drug store and department store skincare brands), heavy use of fragrance and dimethicone. Two things that are be over used and abused. Once you try a formula that really hits the mark you can never go back.
Great suggestions Mo and DD, I haven’t tried the Burt Bee’s Night Creme, but it sounds wonderful.
I bought the Made from Earth Olive Night Creme a couple weeks ago, and I’ve applied it every morning and every night, and my eyes have definitely lightened up and look fresher. It doesn’t work instantaneously, but what skin care product does? If you use it everyday, within a couple weeks, you’ll see a difference. . .
