Last month we had a great giveaway sponsored by The Body Shop featuring their trio of new mineral products. Those of you who weren’t lucky enough to walk away with a lovely set are still sitting there wondering how it is, so I’m here to help.

First things first, let’s take a look at their SPF 25 Mineral foundation:

The Body Shop offers 6 shades of foundation that cover a majority of skin tones, but lack the darker shades that would make them truly all encompassing.  I was pleased with the lightest shade when first applied, though it did get a bit darker as it warmed to my skin.  People with all but the very lightest of skin or those who have a more golden undertone would likely still find this a perfectly acceptable color.  The variety of clays in this formula make it seem ideal for oily skin types, as mineral formulas usually are, but for some reason I had an extraordinary amount of shine whenever I wore this.  I actually retouched several of the pictures taken while in this foundation to dull the mirror finish of my skin.  Generally mineral foundations aren’t great for dry skin but given the gentle, non-drying feel of this formula I would be interested in hearing results from anyone who has dry skin that has tried this product.  At $25 the price point is pretty average, though it offers a higher than average SPF for a mineral foundation, always a good move for a face product.  Probably not the first mineral foundation oily skin types should try, but worth a shot for those with combination/dry skin who would like to try mineral foundations.

Nature’s Mineral cheek colors ($18) come in only 4 shades, but those options cover a variety of skin tones quite well. The colors have a nice natural base, no garishly bright tints to be found. Rose Quartz is an all purpose color with very fine micro glitter. It has an easily buildable formula, and is well pigmented, so getting the perfect amount of color is easy if you have the proper tools. I use a baby kabuki brush to apply all my cheek colors and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. The real key with minerals is to blend, blend, blend. The natural formula does most of the work for you after that and offers a lovely finish.

The Golden Emerald eye color is a very sheer olive wash with golden micro-glitter highlights.  Like most mineral colors it’s a bit subtle for me personally, but used with a light or dark eye color base it becomes very versatile color. I have used it brushed lightly over other eye colors for subtle brightening and dimension. I also like it as a way of adding a bit of glow to my matte brown eye shadows or a touch of color peeking from under my lower lashes. At $13 it’s a fairly reasonable price point for eye color, and the sensitive formula would make a color like Radiant Graphite great for use as an eye color and a highlighter, doubling the value.

The Body Shop seems to have put together a mineral line good for sensitive skin types, though the foundation should probably be avoided if you have oily skin. If you’re in need of a divine body butter (many scents are currently on sale on the website) or just happen to be cruising through the mall this holiday season, swing by The Body Shop and check them out for yourself.
