Last month we had a great giveaway sponsored by The Body Shop featuring their trio of new mineral products. Those of you who weren’t lucky enough to walk away with a lovely set are still sitting there wondering how it is, so I’m here to help.
First things first, let’s take a look at their SPF 25 Mineral foundation:
The Body Shop offers 6 shades of foundation that cover a majority of skin tones, but lack the darker shades that would make them truly all encompassing. I was pleased with the lightest shade when first applied, though it did get a bit darker as it warmed to my skin. People with all but the very lightest of skin or those who have a more golden undertone would likely still find this a perfectly acceptable color. The variety of clays in this formula make it seem ideal for oily skin types, as mineral formulas usually are, but for some reason I had an extraordinary amount of shine whenever I wore this. I actually retouched several of the pictures taken while in this foundation to dull the mirror finish of my skin. Generally mineral foundations aren’t great for dry skin but given the gentle, non-drying feel of this formula I would be interested in hearing results from anyone who has dry skin that has tried this product. At $25 the price point is pretty average, though it offers a higher than average SPF for a mineral foundation, always a good move for a face product. Probably not the first mineral foundation oily skin types should try, but worth a shot for those with combination/dry skin who would like to try mineral foundations.
Nature’s Mineral cheek colors ($18) come in only 4 shades, but those options cover a variety of skin tones quite well. The colors have a nice natural base, no garishly bright tints to be found. Rose Quartz is an all purpose color with very fine micro glitter. It has an easily buildable formula, and is well pigmented, so getting the perfect amount of color is easy if you have the proper tools. I use a baby kabuki brush to apply all my cheek colors and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. The real key with minerals is to blend, blend, blend. The natural formula does most of the work for you after that and offers a lovely finish.
The Golden Emerald eye color is a very sheer olive wash with golden micro-glitter highlights. Like most mineral colors it’s a bit subtle for me personally, but used with a light or dark eye color base it becomes very versatile color. I have used it brushed lightly over other eye colors for subtle brightening and dimension. I also like it as a way of adding a bit of glow to my matte brown eye shadows or a touch of color peeking from under my lower lashes. At $13 it’s a fairly reasonable price point for eye color, and the sensitive formula would make a color like Radiant Graphite great for use as an eye color and a highlighter, doubling the value.
The Body Shop seems to have put together a mineral line good for sensitive skin types, though the foundation should probably be avoided if you have oily skin. If you’re in need of a divine body butter (many scents are currently on sale on the website) or just happen to be cruising through the mall this holiday season, swing by The Body Shop and check them out for yourself.

It sounds like you found some great products
I’d wondered how the Body Shop’s mineral makeup line was, so it’s nice to hear that it’s good.
If the eye shadows are too sheer for you, you can always try foiling them if you like that style, that will make them pop.
And I’m with you on baby ‘bukis, they’re great!
I had a very similar experience while using their mineral foundation, a bit too much shine on my forehead and oily spots, but overall performed better than other mineral makeups I have tried.
I really loved this blush in Rose Quartz and eyeshadow in radiant graphite (like your point of using this as both a highlighter and an eye color). I am going to have to check in with our winner from last month and hear her thoughts as well!
Sounds great i’ll have to try the cheek color in the brown topaz.
As for foundation, i still can’t find anything i like, we don’t hang.
DD- what’s foiling?? Sounds intrigueing.
In my day we called it using your shadows wet, but it’s been fine tuned a lot since then!

Same concept as when I started doing it, but the color is no longer mixed with water. Instead you can use eye drops, liquid primers, or a home mixed glycerin/distilled water solution. Still gives eye color the metallic pop, but with better staying power than water…
I was ahead of my time I tell ya!
Ok, I just watched about an hour of tutorials at Make-Up Geek, and I have biggest girl crush on Marlena now!! Never heard of it before….
I can’t tell you how many jars of mineral make up I have in my drawer! I even ordered some samples the day I won your contest from the body shop! The samples ended up looking caked when I applied them on, even with very little.
But, after using the body shop, all the others went into the trash! At first, I was skeptical about the Moss green eye shadow, but, after putting it on, I loved it. And now, after watching the video you provided about foiling, I am even more pleased. I look, MAV-LOUS! I remember trying to use water years ago…big mistake when it cracked off, oh that was embarrassing!
But, the Body Shop Minerals, gave me great coverage on my mature, spotty skin, with just a small amount. As it blends with the oils of my skin it takes on a glow that does not look oily. The others just seemed to fade off, and the Body Shop minerals stayed fresh looking for hours. It felt like I was not wearing anything at all! I kept looking to see if I had to apply more, as I always do…but, did not have to! So glad not to have to pile on concealers, or green stuff to hide the red blotches! And the blush is perfect for my pale, pale skin. Gives me just a kiss of color and does not look like the dark, dark colors that the other mineral companies seem to have only one color of.
I am so hooked on this brand now. Shame to throw all those others away….NOT! Thank you so much, especially for the tips! You made this Ol’ lady look young again and freed up a drawer in my vanity for more colors of shadow.
Here is to looking good for the holidays ladies!!
Thank you so much Michele! Here’s to looking fabulous, you are wonderful!
Michele,
I am SO happy you had such great results from this! I’m glad to hear the perspective of someone with a different skin type and it sounds like it went great.
It is such a thrill to hear someone find something that brings them joy and makes then feel “mav-lous”, that’s what we’re here for!
