One of the reasons that I love Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Foundation so much is how easily and naturally my foundation looks when applying it with the beautyblender sponge. It was like these two products were made for eachother! Mo and I both listed the beautyblender sponge and cleanser kit as one of our favorite beauty finds for 2008. Â
Mo’s review of the beautyblender:
I have never really liked makeup sponges, even back in the day when I got paid to use them. This latex free, odor free, non allergenic sponge changes all that. Thoroughly wet the sponge and then squeeze as much of the moisture from it as you can. The egg shaped applicator will have doubled in size to a super soft, super smooth sponge. A simple stippling motion leaves even the heaviest of foundations with a smooth, even finish every time and does wonders with my under eye concealer. I bought the double kit and use one for foundation/concealer and one for cream or gel blushes/highlighters. Throw in the lavender and soy cleanser that gently removes dirt and oil from the sponge and I am hopelessly hooked.
‘Nuf said, the  Blender Sponge & Cleanser Kit  sells for $39.95 at Beauty.com.

This is intrugueing, but is it really worth forty dollars when I can get a pack of little wedge sponges at the drugstore for $2? I mean, I want fancy smooth skin as much as the next gal, I’m just stuck on the price a little bit…
Really, I have always hated sponges. These are enough to make me change my mind. Especially with the MUFE HD Foundation, it’s just not a fingertip foundation. It needs a good quality applicator(though I haven’t tried it with a brush yet), and when applied with a slightly damp, fluffy Blender sponge the coverage is flawless.
These sponges absorb less of your makeup than regular sponges, saving you money, and they have a much longer life than any cheap little wedge or round.
You know me, I’m cheap. I don’t want to spend money on things I don’t need or things that don’t work. These certainly count as a luxury item, but I stand by my statement that they are worth every penny.
I’m seriously hooked on these sponges. And Mo is completely on target with her review; they are worthy of high praise.
Another sponge applicator that I adore are the Laura Mercier’s oval sponges (4 pack for $15), but you don’t get the lavender scented sponge wash, which you can use with the beautyblender & several other things. I wash out my cosmetics brushes with it and it is lasting a very long time! Thank you Mo for gifting me the beautyblender this year!
I’ve heard the Sonia Kashuk sponge made in this style is really good as well.
I don’t use sponges myself, so I haven’t tried it.
It sounds like a good product though!
I was hesitant at first to carry the Beauty Blender, wondering if it was really worth the $20. All my customers have been very happy with theirs. It is a “must have” for liquid foundations, but even works well with loose powder without making a huge mess. It applies much easier and far more smoothly than regular sponges, and it does use less makeup since everything sits on top of the sponge. It will last longer than wedges, and is far more hygenic.
Just a side note: try washing the Beauty Blender (or your brushes) with Dr Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap. It’s far less expensive than the Beauty Blender cleaner, comes in a multitude of fragrances (I am partial to the almond scent, and the Tea Tree is known for it’s antibacterial properties), and sucks out your makeup like nobody’s business!
Hope this helps.
I heart my Beauty Blender too! So I’m here waving my hands in exclamation of how wonderous it is.
[...] probably the last gal on this planet to have tried the Beauty Blender sponge. I know Mo and Jen at Mythbuster Beauty both placed it on their Best of 2008 lists… so I figured, what the hey. I’ll give it a [...]
