DermaLash Color. Why didn’t I think of that?

When you think about it, combining a lash treatment with color really seems like a no brainer. Most of us would rather cut down on our prep time rather than add to it, and this is a handy liquid liner, disguised as a lash treatment!
I’ve been using DermaLash Color from DermaQuest Skin Therapy for about 2 months with reasonable regularity, almost every day or night. I received it in “Cocoa”, a nice brown that actually goes pretty well with a variety of colors. I’ve worn it with everything from blue to yellow and it impresses me every time. Who cares about that though, you want to know if it works!
First, the pros:
- Yes, it works. After about a month and a half I noticed that the lashes on my right eye were longer and thicker. I have a spot in my upper right lashes where there is a gap and I have forever been battling with mascara and curlers to make my lashes fill in that space. At about the one and a half month mark I realized that I was no longer focusing on that area. On my left eye my lashes are definitely fuller, though they haven’t grown too much longer. Are they huge full artificial type lashes? No, but my lashes have always been quite short and not very full, so the improvement I saw made me happy.
- The color is good. Like I said, I was able to use it with many shadow colors, and it looks good on its own too.
- I really like the brush. It’s a perfect combination of thickness and length. It makes it easy to get a thin line of color right smack dab up against my lash line. This makes it great for people who only want a little enhancement and you can easily add to it if you want a thicker line. A lot less fussing for the perfect line than many liquid liners I’ve tried. It’s commendable for this alone.
- This is minor, but I like that it’s just part of my regular morning routine. I do most of my skincare in the morning and take little time at night for extra creams and treatments. Having a treatment added into a liner, which I usually wear anyway, is a serious perk to me.
- Unlike most lash growth formulas on the market, Dermalash contains no drugs! It takes longer to work, but that’s because it uses natural ingredients to nourish and grow your lashes rather than the glaucoma drug you’ll find in most others. One of the ingredients is imperata cylindrica, a type of grass. In some states it is considered a weed which, I suppose, means your lashes will be growing like weeds!
Now the cons:
- Price. At $95 online it’s an investment. But I’ve been using it for a couple months and it’s still not clumpy and there seems to be a pretty good amount in there.
- Color. If you’re going to use it on your bottom lashes you’ll either have to be VERY handy with that brush or you’ll need to use it at night. This is a pretty weak con, I know, but it’s something to take into consideration.
- Time. This does take longer to see results than some other lash treatments. BUT, considering the no glaucoma drug issue, I’m okay with that.
And yes, I have pictures. All 3 are with mascara, but it’s the same mascara in each picture so I think it’s pretty consistent. I didn’t realize what a difference it was until I started flipping through my old pictures:
Those aren’t much as far as lashes go. Thankfully I didn’t realize it at the time like I do now!
A month ago, one month into Dermalash…
My lashes are a LOT less sparse, but the gap is still there. I circled it to make it easier to spot.

And today, 2 months into Dermalash use…
Short little lashes are finally starting to grow in and fill that empty space!

Ultimately I give this a thumbs up for doing what it says. I like the idea of treating your lashes without having to layer lots of additional product and without any extra thought. It’s such a simple and perfect idea, why didn’t I think of that?!

Mo your eyes are beyond beautiful!!! Great pics.
Such good pro and con points too… as always girlfriend, you are awesome!
Hey, I’m curious how they are doing now, six months later!
Also, you have to have some pics of you without mascara at all, from both back before use began, and now. That, to me, is where the real proof and recommendations lie… :/ I’m not really sold on it’s value, despite seeing how rockin your lashes look in the last pic in particular. I want to see, without a doubt, the “naked” effect and proof…
Any ability to share that?
Cheers!
Hi Ashley!
Let me pass this onto Mo and very nice to hear from you! Jen
Thanks, Jen! I appreciate it!
I am really digging the review and would love an update.
As they say, hindsight is 20/20. My foresight, however, not quite as clear. When I sorted through my before pictures I couldn’t find a single one that was without mascara. I ultimately decided to recreate the same conditions as closely as possible for the after photos. It was definitely a lesson learned and I will think ahead next time for sure!!
My “bald spot” hasn’t returned and I’m reasonably happy with how full my lashes are now. The length leaves something to be desired though. This certainly isn’t a single purchase fix, but it did give my lashes the boost they needed to fill in a bit. With continued use I think this could have been a great solution to sparse lashes, but I just don’t have the money for the continued upkeep!
