Carly is back! After reading the advice we gave her (no pressure people), “Hair Removal Woes: Let’s help Carly out,” she had her upper lip waxed, but still has some concerns.
well i did it and got it waxed……but I’m worried each time it will grow back darker? will it grow back darker and more noticeable between each time i wax it??? – Carly
Jen’s two cents:
Hiya Carly! I haven’t noticed darker and more noticeable hairs growing back after waxing, but I might be a weird exception to the rule. The hair that grows should be the same shade as before, unless you were bleaching it. So, the big question is, “Carly, for the time being, how did the waxing experience go overall, can you keep it up, and are you enjoying being hair-free right now?” Waxing will be something that needs to be done continually, so I sure hope you will stop worrying for a moment. Facial hair is just facial hair, and you are so much more than that!
And I hope after writing all that, I too can take my own advice to stop and smell the roses! Thank you so much for sharing Carly, even though we are just cyber-friends, we all adore you!

Actually, Carly… over time, waxing should make regrowth finer and less noticeable than before! It’s really your best bet for hair removal (though it can be somewhat painful)!
I can tell you from MANY years of waxing the hair eventually grows back thinner and slower than before. Each time you wax the hair is ripped out by the root essentially damaging the follicle. In order for the hair to grow it has to repair itself and after many times it gets weaker and weaker which means thinner and slower growth. I’ve been doing this since I was 19 and even though I was hoping that the hair would have stopped growing back by now there is a significant difference, even my esthetician has mentioned it and noticed that I can space my appointments out further and further.
Don’t worry Carly you’ll learn to look forward to your appointments and you won’t feel so self conscious after a few times. Its just like any other maintenance that we must do as women. And they weren’t kidding when they said “it hurts to be beautiful.”
Carly, I am 22 and have been waxing for YEARS! Most of the hair is baby-fine in thickness, and has become light colored also. And surprisingly, a lot of the hair has stopped growing back because I have been waxing for so long. I am Middle Eastern, with fair skin, and I USED to have very dark, coarse hair, but because of waxing, the hair follicles have gotten damaged (which is a good thing because that means less hair grows back and the hair that does grow back is thin and lighter). Because of this, waxing gets less and less painful as time goes by, too. Just make a routine out of waxing, and stick to it; eventually, you will be able to wait longer between waxings.
haha another post just for me! well for now its very amazing and im not as worried! It rly does work and it only hurt a little bit. so ya i would say try it for everyone out their! i will continue this about every 2 weeks i think.
okay but their is one worry…it didnt grow back darker the first time but i am scared if i continue it will. I no that you all say it wont because you are pulling out the root of the hair….but i did bleach it before. Im not sure if it matters or not…so will it grow back darker if i keep waxing because i bleached? thx xxoo-Carly
Hey Carly-It won’t grow back darker than what it was naturally, but it may appear darker to you b.c you have been bleaching it before and aren’t used to the color. That said, do not let it stop you from waxing–it will pay off in the long run!
thanks! ya im def gonna keep waxing…plus its the summer and i have more time to try waxing! again thank u all for the support and advice!
xxoo Carly
