Hi there, it’s your friendly primer & foundation fanatic friend Jen! This summer I took a very quick trip to Las Vegas and made sure to stop over at the Sephora store on the strip. While going through the store, I came across the Hourglass Cosmetics display and sampled their primer. The product itself seemed very compelling to buy, but the price tag ($52) kept me from doing so.
A few months later I was given to review (big woot!) and was overjoyed to try out the Hourglass Veil fluid makeup foundation and Veil Mineral Primer for Mythbuster Beauty.
The Veil Mineral Primer differs from many primers because it does not have the heavy dimethicone feel, and being oil-free does seem to mattify and even out the look of the skin. I am not sure if this primer really makes a difference with the foundation’s staying power, because I did notice that plenty rubbed onto my cell phone during the day. Is there any solution for this other than wearing a tinted moisturizer? Cell phone rub-off is seriously my biggest foundation pet peeve!!!
The foundation shade matched very well on my skin tone (not too warm or orange) and went on easily, and left an overall, smooth and natural finish (not too matte or overly shiny) on my combination oily/dry skin. However a few hours into the day, at closer examination in the mirror, I noticed my dry areas and flaws seemed more apparent. I did use this product in conjunction with the primer, which should improve the foundation’s staying power and appearance – but as I stated before, don’t know if it really did make that much of a difference. A good aspect to the foundation is that a very little amount goes a long way (and I like the pump dispenser), so the product should last at least 4 months.
So overall both products are best suited for those with oily to normal skin types, and my biggest concern would have to be the very high price tag in association with them. The primer costs $52 and the foundation is $60, however many reviewers are raving to no end about them, so these items may be the perfect match for you!

There are 3 primers that I like:
1. Benefit’s That Gal primer
2. Fyrinnae’s Velvet-Gel Silica Primer
3. Camiella Rose V2.0 Primer
There are 3 foundations that I like:
1. Aromaleigh’s Glissade foundation
2. Meow’s Pampered Puss foundation
3. Stardust Cosmetics Mattifying foundation
I think that these really work well for me
At a guess, if you feel the foundation/primer wore off after a few hours, you could try switching the primer first to see if that helps.
Thank you for the review :>
Thanks Phyrra! I have never even heard of those second two primers!
Your skin always looks flawless, so no doubt, your recommendations are wonderful!!!
I love Hourglass
It doesn’t break me out. It blends effortlessly and it doesn’t disappear throughout the day. I’ve even gone to shower with the foundation and water just slides off my face. It’s waterproof. Hahaha… Love it!
Check out my blog how I rave about the brushes =]
