Sometime amid the chaos in our house today my previously written post was deleted by one of my darling little munchkins. I can’t say for sure which one of the monsters shut down my browser without hitting save first because they’ve banded together quite admirably and aren’t naming names. Oh well, it gave me the energy to whip up another batch of cookies and I have to love the fact that for once they aren’t falling all over themselves to tattle.

As I may have mentioned a time or twenty before, I have blemish prone skin, even in my 30’s. I’m also creeping into fine line territory and I believe I have definitely whined before about how unfair this is. The major problem is that there aren’t really many products for women in my position. There are scads of acne control products on the market, and an infinite number of wrinkle creams and treatments, but I’ve had trouble finding a product for that lucky woman who has need of both. Besides the expense of doubling up on products to treat both issues, I’m irritated by the difficulty I have finding just the right balance between acne and wrinkle treatments. Intense wrinkle creams can often exacerbate oily skin and many acne treatments are drying, so using both at once can sometimes be counterproductive. I need a lightweight moisturizer that will help prevent aging without breaking out my already finicky skin, is that so much to ask?

Recently  I was perusing the counters of the Big 3(Lancome, Lauder, Clinique), when I stumbled across a moisturizer from Clinique called Youth Surge. Not only is it less intensive of a wrinkle fighter, perfect for a woman my age who needs prevention more than repair, it is also available in 3 daytime formulas, including one for oily/combination skin. Top it off with an SPF 15 and it looked to be filling the void I’ve been living in. Into my basket it went.

This is surprisingly light for a cream. It absorbs fairly fast and leaves zero greasy residue, a clean feeling that carries through most of the day quite well. Especially in this super dry winter we’re experiencing, something that can offer soothing moisture is a plus and Youth Surge has just the perfect touch of moisture without being thick or goopy. My skin looks plumped and glowing, which minimizes the appearance of some of the fine lines I have creeping in. I think it will perform well in summer too, since it has such a nice oil fighting formula.

This is just one slight step above your average moisturizer, and at $48.50 a jar it’s on the spendy side. But if you’ve been having a hard time locating the perfect wrinkle fighter for your oily skin, like I have, then it may well be just the thing you’re looking for. If you feel like you’re not quite ready for an intense wrinkle treatment but still want a little boost and don’t have oily skin, there are also normal and dry skin versions of this cream as well.

I’m off to go hug my family and munch on some of the many cookies and breads I created today. I hope that you and yours enjoy this wonderful holiday season together, filled with love and joy. From all of us here at MBB to all of you, Happy Holidays!
