Okay, we all know about cotton swabs and their many magical cosmetics uses. Wet, dry, straight, angled…there are about a million ways you can use those little babies. I love that such a simple, inexpensive item you have hanging around your house can be so useful and versatile, so I thought I would share with you my second favorite household beauty tool, a plain old 3×5 card.
Sometimes you want a bold clean line, but trying to create it by hand is near impossible. A handy trick is to lay an index card, or other piece of firm paper, along the angle you wish your line to follow. Holding the paper firmly in place, swirl your shadow laden brush where the card and your skin meet until you have the desired amount of color. Remove the card and, voila, a dramatic, perfectly angled swoop of color.

This is an easy technique that you can use to effortlessly create a dramatic look. Use it to craft a super sexy smoky eye or pull out your favorite sparkles for a special dash of oomph. If you’re feeling really avant garde you can use this technique with your blush for an ultra contoured appearance. It only takes minimal practice to get comfortable with this tip, and you’ll be surprised with how much fun you have!

Love this post and your look!
GREAT idea. I see tons of makeup looks with straight lines and I’m like, ‘how did they do that?’ You’re awesome for telling me.
I never knew how everyone got such sharp, clean lines – thanks for this!
