You’ve probably heard a lot about the benefits of a good night’s restorative sleep. And, you’ve probably watched an Oprah episode or two targeting unfit mattresses teaming with dust mites, or bed pillows that are in the most pathetic, lumpy state. How about something that comes even closer to your face? Your pillowcase.

Cleaning aside, have you ever thought about the fabric of your pillowcase? For starters a soft feeling fabric is nice, and something that keeps cool and comfortable against your skin is ideal. A while back I was reading about the benefits of using a satin pillowcase for the hair and skin, and I didn’t know if I would enjoy sleeping on a satin pillowcase. I was thinking satin is *slippery* and would make it difficult to position my head, and then eventually slide off the bed onto the floor.  I also imagined that satin would retain moisture on a warm night and feel sticky against my skin – not pleasant at all. Nope, I thought, ignoring the beneficial claims, a satin pillowcase is not for me!

Then one day, a reader made a comment on my frizz-free curly hair post about using satin pillowcases from “A Touch of Satin.” I ended up contacting the company, stating that I would like to test out a satin pillowcase, and the owner Mary very kindly sent me one, with a promise to review that pillowcase at some future time.

One year later.

Mary’s site is now working (and looking) much better and she is ready for my review.  I have tested and continued to use my satin pillowcase for over a year now. Is it slippery? A bit, but my head doesn’t slide off, nor, do I find it on the floor in the morning. Sticky? Definitely not – it wicks away moisture beautifully and keeps cool and comfortable against my skin. I might add that satin is less abrasive on the skin and is also beneficial for your hair in many ways. Mary sells pillowcases in a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes. They seem a little pricey for a pillowcase (most range from $39 to 49) , after one year of heavy use, my white satin pillowcase which has gone through several gentle wash cycles, still looks and feels fabulous.

As for the case for the satin pillowcase:  wouldn’t sleep without it!
