Sibu Beauty Review: Sea Buckthorn Berry Juice

While shopping at my local Whole Foods a few months back I came across a woman giving out samples of a orange-colored juice from a company called Sibu. Being a bit jaded from the continual outcropping of liquid supplements I asked, “What’s the gimmick with this drink?” I found out that the secret ingredient found in this supplemental drink is the Sea Buckthorn Berry – a cherished fruit that is native to Tibet. Sea Buckthorn is loaded with Omega fatty acids 3, 6 and 9 and also claims to have exceptional nutrient qualities for hair, skin and nails. (more…)

Mythbuster Beauty’s Scoop on the “Beauty Scoop”

Remember this post, “Supplements for the Skin, Hair, and Nails: Price Hard to Swallow?”

If you are a skincare junkie like me, I bet you have been wondering about all the supplements and drinks that purport to benefit your skin, hair, and nails.  And these supplements don’t come cheap!  I am not saying that these do or do not work; I am just saying a little investigation is in order before you “bottoms-up” on some of these products.

A recent post from J. Tania at Beauty Tip Today mentions a new celebrity-touted drink called “Beauty Scoop“ that is supposed to do wonders for your skin and hair.  I mean, if Ricki Lake loves it and she has the most fabulous skin and hair it must be good.  Well $95 for a 21 day supply, it better be!  

Recently I had the opportunity to sample the “Beauty Scoop – the edible beauty accessory” product for 21 days.   And what were my conclusions?

Eh.

The taste wasn’t bad, it reminded me a lot of a vanilla flavored whey powder protein drink that I made a lot while I was dieting.  The Beauty Scoop product adds both whey and soy protein to their powder.  Their magical ingredients?  Safflower oil, Canola oil, and vanilla.  Um, am I missing something here?  Does the beauty “accessory label” warrant the $95 price tag?!  (more…)
